Its been so long since i blogged, thought i can declare it dead as i feel i no longer seems to have a need for it. Oh well, guess even if i blog now no one will see... which is good..

So much things has happened.. my life is upside down now with so much problems... just when i thought i have solved them. My new phone was stolen yesterday.. cold war from her...

Feel so off this world week... my mind constantly on her.. Its not i dun wish to comfort you.. i want you! but u asked me to leave u alone.. I try to do as you say.. my constant faults not withstanding... u got angry over me sleeping at your place... mroe angry i wanted to leave.. now in spite wrong words are said and i am held for it...

Its my fault i know.. for i should not have said those things.. In anger i lost all my bearing of anything that i am unhappy about you.. Nothing i said will make it right now that i know.. but with 1 side standing still things will never move for i am still holding on to you..

I uess i am luckier and unluckier than you.. while your sadness comes at night, i have the full day.. more problems occur to me so as to numb the hurt and pain that have been caused.. but still i have ato act as if all is fine too...

unfortunately the current cirucmstances cause me to involutarly server my contact with you as i no longer have a phone.. but i guess u dun really wan to hear from me anyway.. I now lost all hope that u will reply me some time..anytime.. since i will not know anyway..

Distro Review

The challenge is to find a distro has a small footprint, is highly responsive and easy to pick up due to my current time constraint for my legacy laptop computer (P4 1.8Ghz, 256 MB Ram, 20GB HDD). T

Quite a bit of time has passed since my last post on migrating from XP to Ubuntu.
I have tried a few other distros. (This is currently typed out on OpenSuse 10.2)

After finally had enough of lag while using Ubuntu, i decided to switch to Xubuntu instead. As i corrupted some of the file sources and had no idea how to rectify them, i did a fresh install. The difference in speed in rather drastic for day to day usage. As it is using Ubuntu as a base, there is no lack of programs and resources.

After several days i just could not get used to how xfce manages the Desktop as i am the guy of guy who dumps all temp files on Desktop. I also was unable to get the network file sharing on samba to work even using pyNeighbourhood. Besides, i was eager to try new stuff and am curious about KDE, thus landed on OpenSuse.

As OpenSuse u do not have a dvd rom or writer on my laptop, i have to use the installation disc instead of the live cd.I cant get the installation via network to work and had to resolve in downloading the installation cds.

The boot up is rather slow compared to Ubuntu and Xubuntu however the high responsiveness in terms of operation, exercuting programs conpensated for that. The claer, sleek KDE look is also prefered by me. The Suse customised K menu is also very good. Besides the occasional lag when too many applications are being opened, everything seems to work fine. However, I am still not used to the single click of opening files yet. I have also yet to find a way to place application shortcuts (like a dock bar) properly so as to make starting programs easier.

Back again

A long long long time since i blogged. So many things happened, or rather more of a vexed feeling i cant seems to get rid of. Things to be done and achieved like tiding my room which is in a super mess for super long, my blog which i have been trying to change the template for uber long, money woes as i cant seems to get my cash flow right, blah blah. The tempo in camp tune up again since there is basically nothing much to do so training for IPPT SOC all the way which is kinda killing me. In all, just simply takes aways the feeling to blog.

Anyway, just started deployment, my social life leaving to my gf as she keeps an account on her blog (pictures included if she has the mood) since its 90% on her anyway. :p Finally got the new template up and solve the background picture thing. Nice hor? Super cute robot right? keke. Just need to add back all the links and stuff and i think more or else done. 1 thing off the list! Hope my mood for blogging will improve and erm will blog more loh...lol

I am back!

I am back!

Back to this blog, realize i am away for about a month as i was not myself, trying to sort myself out. I was also away in Taiwan for 2 weeks. The weather is good, not because its colder and warmer, but because its less humid! The food is excellent; like Singapore you will never go hungry unless u have no money as food stalls is really every where.

But ever since i am back, my life have been going ups and down. For some reason i cant tolerate a lot of things in my life anymore. Realize how my friends are so important, so valuable and truly cares. So much things i cant stand, so much problems. Gotta break free from everything, gotta clear my mind and solve all problems. Sigh, life is tough

Migration from Windows XP to Linux

As my laptop is getting old and how files starts to pile up, I was getting irritated by the lag of my computer. Many minor faults here and there slowly formed a resolve to Format and install Linux instead of the usual windows XP i am running on.

The initial problem i faced was the choice of distro as there are so many of them available. Thanks to this distro choosing quiz, i narrowed down to 2 distro i wanted to try: Mandriva and Ubuntu.

Ubuntu gets lots of good responses and thus was my 1st choice. I boot up the live cd and it was laggy. After all, my laptop is only a P4 1.8, 20GB hdd and 256MB ram. After a few (and failed tries) of installing Ubuntu, i decided to try Mandriva. It was faster, and was able to complete the installation with only a sound problem.I realised how new i was to this and how i thought it should be quite easy until i tried tackling the sound problem.

When i finally gave it up, i found out that there is and alternative text install version for Ubuntu and decided to give that a try. The installation took slightly longer than Mandriva but at least the sound is working. The synaptic package manager seems superb and things are slightly easier to use only difference is that Ubuntu takes slightly longer to open applications and stuff.

Only a few hours has passed and i cant seems to get used to how stuff is located and how to do certain things as it is quite different from XP but i feel that its going to work out. Bottom line, Mandriva is faster but Ubuntu is more user friendly for newbies like me! Maybe i will try Mandriva again after i get used to using Linux as an Operating System! =D

Ps Cafe

Overslept very very badly. In fact woke up at 3pm! and miss my appointment with Suli. So so sorry! Wasted 10 stupid hours and my computers are not fixed yet, Such a waste of my time ugh.

In the end met dear at Ps Cafe, along with Andrew, Angel and Sheng Fang. Good ambiance and pretty good food. Sheng Fang chose a good red wine too. Updates with photos later.

Finally running on Linux, Mandriva now. More on that later, gotta sleep.

Book out loh

Book out and meet dear for lunch at Bukit Timah Plaza but in the end I ate in school as her lesson was going to start soon. Finally she is going to get her debit card. Congrats dear!

Went home and tried to fix my computer again but in vain. Because of that, was late for the platoon cohesion barbecue. The barbecue ended towards midnight and Jerald and I went over to Kai Yang's place to dump the stuff as well as wash up as he lives nearby. Omg, he has this super big golden retriever! so cute!

Went to Zouk to club with a third of the barbecue group. Had fun. Hearing almost gone as we were right in front of the speakers and now am home typing this all out. Hope to see you again, Jun Wei and thanks for the ride! May your next job be smooth sailing and promotions come fast!

About sleeping and Life

You know, I always like to sleep and do so at every chance i have. This is embedded in me even to the subconcious level of my mind. I personally feel that its one of my tools, my way of keeping myself sane, the temporary getaway from everything. Think about it, what do you do when you sleep? Nothing! Its the perfect getaway at no costs!

But yet, i never really feel any sense of attachment to any bed or even my own personal bed i sleep in and i wonder why... Is it because of my character to keep things as simple as neutral in all aspects? Like how my cupboard in my bunk never had a single photo and none in my room while others are have so many. This make almost all my artifacts looks as if it can belong to any Tom, Dick and Harry. Hell, even my wallpaper on the desktop of my computer is pure black. Ocasionally changing to a picture of digital abstract art.

How does it feel like, to have pictures of you, of you and your friends, family all over. To have names on items you own, to personalise everything you have. How do you feel when people can recongise your belongings confidently as it has been personalised to your own style? Gee.... I wonder...

Note: This entry is written using Opera on Nokia E61 via M1 unlimited GPRS which belongs to Ian. You rock and thanks!

Book out loh!

This is a rather late entry considering that my internet died in the wee hours of morning when i am trying to to blog.

Anyway, upon booking out went to meet Tz and company. Chat about dota at AMK S11 and went to eat chum pang nasi lemak before going home.

Met my dear the next day, went to town and had looks of fun. Hopefully can get the pictures from her or maybe she will upload it herself, will let you people know.

Went home, just about to get some work done when my fucking internet DIED. WTF is internet connected by no DNS!??!!? That and all the minor minor problems on my laptop makes me hardened my resolve to try Linux.

Pissed me off so much that I went to sleep. Ugh.

Update: Click here to view the photos taken. (captions on the way!) =D

Project Synergy Online

As mentioned on the previous post, was setting out to achieve something personalised on the net. Was hunting around all the services I know and asking around for ideas as well as for the services they know (Thanks TZ). Finally I have choosen, The Answer is..... Google!

And Google Rocks! As you see, on my Google personalise page aka Desktop to me, I can have almost everything i need on one page, at my fingertips! The reason iI choose Google because I was already using its search engine and blogger which requires Google account. Since I need a new email, bookmarks, calender among other stuffs, Google seems to the the answer. This is just the 1st step as there is many work to be done.

New Start (Again)

For some reason i feel like blogging again. Looking through all those old blogs i have, i believe this is the 3rd to 5th i had. I logged on my old blogspot account and realize how far Google has spread its umbrella to, (in army, dunno about much lah).

This brought back the nostalgic idea of "Building a PC online" where you link a set of services and tasks you do on your computer online thus creating something like a desktop where you can access almost everything you leave online. Eg: Accessing all your common files like music, video and documents while able to see your schedule, bookmarks and contact list. Let's not forget of course our email as well as your rss feeds.

I was not successful then, only be able to achieved half of what i wanted due to the lack of services and the internet ability to link everything together. Now that i have some time on my hands and filled with a new rush of adrenaline for things like that once again, thought of giving it a shot! Stay tuned!
